WEDNESDAY

According to REI, “There are lots of great places to hike, backpack, paddle, fish, bird watch, and just lose track of time on the Eastern Shore.” No doubt. But let’s face it, there’s also Ocean City. And though that sticky-gross boardwalk teeming with chick-searching dudes flip-flopping their way down the ice-cream-and-cotton-candy-specked promenade occasionally makes for good people-watching, most of the time it just kinda sucks. Maybe the thought of another summer spent roasting alongside those weenies was what inspired REI’s “photo-adventurer” Ed Neville to host “Exploring the DelMarVa Peninsula,” a class that aims to enlighten those who have yet to venture beyond the (relatively) safe confines of O.C. It begins at 7:30 p.m. at REI, 3509 Carlin Springs Road, Baileys Crossroads. Free. (703) 379-9400. (Mike Kanin)
