I remember just when the love affair began: I was 4 years old, sitting at the dinner table. Already familiar with Kool-Aid but not yet introduced to coffee (there wasn’t any need to jump-start my day until kindergarten started, a year later), I had been spying the golden beverage that accompanied my father’s meals with devilish curiosity. And one day, with twinkles in our eyes, he let me in on the secret: I took one refreshing sip of his Genny, and my little taste buds were smitten. And now, Executive Chef Scott Ostrander of New Heights restaurant is here to say that beer isn’t just for bar food anymore: Tonight, he will pair specialty imports from Merchant du Vin with a four-course meal, making this beer tasting really something to savor. So do a little sampling, and perhaps you too will find yourself uttering the sentiment Homer Simpson expressed with pride: “Good ol’ trustworthy beer. My love for you will never die.” At 6:30 p.m. at New Heights Restaurant, 2317 Calvert St. NW. $65. (202) 234-4110. (TO)
