Novello and Amateur Athletic Union President Bobby Doddcut right to the chase as kids and adults alike fanned themselves frantically. Mayor Anthony A. Williams, however, found time to regale his audience with a quip about how he thought about doing a cannonball on his way in, and then followed it up with an oddly placed remark about his sadness over Olympian Marion Jones’ loss in a 100-meter race at the International Amateur Athletic Federation World Championships.
