The story on the Florida Mile (“The Florida Mile,” 8/31) was forwarded to me by a friend who lives in D.C. I just wanted to say that the reporter did an excellent job compiling the information.
I left Washington three months ago to take up residence in Miami Beach. The very problems and frustrations that are mentioned in the story are some of the very reasons I moved. Although I loved living in the city, the Dupont Circle area had priced me out, and I was over condo living.
Checking out such neighborhoods as the Florida Mile proved to be a hazard to my visual health. While reading the reasons you have pointed out for such blight in the area, I concluded that the problem was bigger than me and that my money could be well-spent on a waterfront view elsewhere other than Rehoboth or Dewey Beach.
Thanks again for producing a great story and a wealth of information, not to mention once again putting the D.C. government on notice (and the defensive).
Keep up the good work.
