The article regarding the Florida Mile (“The Florida Mile,” 8/31)

was excellent!

I have been searching for a house to buy in the LeDroit/Eckington/Bloomingdale neighborhood for better than eight months. The real estate market is crazy—all inflated, overpriced properties. Yet on almost every block, there are huge abandoned homes waiting for renovation.

No one knows any information about the properties, and yes, many are listed as owner-occupied. Yet they are clearly abandoned and have been for several years.

I hope the city responds to this article and cracks down on these delinquent landlords or forces them to sell to buyers who are willing to put the time and money into remodeling the homes.
