The Darrow Montgomery photograph on the contents page last week (9/14) was brilliant. At a time when we are looking outside our nation to point at the evil in the world, his picture reminds us that the evil is all around us and has become a part of our national fabric. What is it but evil that we have homeless people living in our streets? That children are poorly nourished and in many places receiving inadequate educations? That millions of people in our country do not have health insurance? When will $40 billion be set aside to combat homelessness and poverty in our nation and around the globe?
