Beer, brats, more beer. Aren’t they what every good Oktoberfest is all about? But if you’re gonna do it, you might as well do it right. Any hole-in-the-wall with a tap and a grill can serve up suds ‘n’ sausage, but this time why not experience the real thing? The Washington Sängerbund, a 150-year-old institution dedicated to furthering German culture in D.C., will celebrate Oktoberfest as it has for nearly five decades, with authentic German cooking, souvenirs, music, and dancing (by the Washingtonia Schuhplattlers, not some drunken guy named Hans-Jürgen). Oh yeah, and there’ll be beer—and “organized amusements for the children,” presumably so the kiddies won’t have to see Mommy and Daddy drunk. Swill away at noon at Second Genesis, 4620 Mellwood Road, Upper Marlboro. $4. (202) 310-4691. (Tricia Olszewski)
