The White House may be giving out small American-flag lapel pins as patriotic souvenirs, but over at One Judiciary Square, some city staffers are pledging allegiance to a different standard. Lateef Magnum, Mayor Anthony A. Williams’ photographer and audiovisual specialist, sported the red bars and stars of the District of Columbia’s flag while attending an anthrax-related press conference last week. “We were giving them out as trinkets at one time,” says Magnum of his pin. —Garance Franke-Ruta
