FRIDAY

The spawn of a nightclub-entertainer mother and a father who worked backstage at a New Jersey supper club, actor-singer Jason Graae has proved adept at both comic and dramatic roles. Graae’s done sitcom guest shots (Friends, Frasier), was the voice of Lucky the Leprechaun in Lucky Charms cereal commercials, and has sung on more than 25 recordings of musical-theater scores. But the classically trained performer is perhaps best-known for his appearances in stage musicals, among them A Grand Night for Singing, Falsettos, and Ragtime. Recently, Graae has stepped out as a cabaret performer with an act accurately titled “An Evening of Self-Indulgence.” On the Fynsworth Alley recording of his show, taped last year at the Cinegrill in Hollywood, he blends outrageously campy, inside-showbiz patter with an astutely chosen collection of rarely heard, intelligently interpreted show tunes (including “The Moment Has Passed” from the experimental off-Broadway musical Promenade and “It Would Have Been Wonderful” from Annie Warbucks, the doomed sequel to Annie) and some wicked impersonations of rival male singers. He even plays a Georg Telemann oboe chamber piece. Graae’s appearance kicks off the 2001-2002 “Cabaret Nights at the Barns” series at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the Barns of Wolf Trap, 1635 Trap Road, Vienna. $25. (703) 218-6500. (Joel E. Siegel)
