Post Scoops Post?

The Washington Post has been known to scoop the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times. Scooping itself, however, is a rare achievement—which the Post managed to pull off last week with its double take on Fond du Lac, Wisc., resident Donald Gorske’s amazing gastronomical feat: consuming 18,000 McDonald’s Big Macs over the course of the past 29 years. The paper first printed news of Gorske’s dubious achievement in its Nov. 20 Nation in Brief section, along with the raw statistics compiled by Fond du Lac high school students about Gorske’s intake. (That’s 1,900 whole pickles, by the way.) The Post’s Names and Faces recycled the Gorske story, appropriately enough, in its Thanksgiving Day edition on Nov. 22, with the same statistics in the exact same order. —Richard Byrne
