I hope Jason Cherkis and the local independent record store owners he criticizes (“Final Vinyl Days,” 11/9) realize that they’re a lot closer to being allies than foes. The real enemy, of course, is local radio, which has kept Washington listeners draped in burkhas of music ignorance for years. As a handful of corporations shove mindless commercial programming up the dial and down our throats, the local “public” radio outlets are locked in a death-match battle for supremacy, wielding Car Talk and All Things Considered (Eddie Stubbs and Dick Spottswood: Watch your backs. Pacifica: What happened?). The people’s airwaves? Bullshit.
