Paul Fain’s piece “Ad Out” (1/18) was excellent. As informative as it was, it was also disappointing to learn of Mayor Anthony A. Williams’ continued effort to sell the soul of D.C. out to corporate America. The timing of this piece is ironic; it came out the same week that Williams announced his new policy about aggressively going after the small folks who are putting signs out on lampposts. From what I understand of the mayor’s plan on signage, it could cost a citizen $35 per sign to post signs about a yard sale.
So I guess it’s OK if you have a gross amount of money and can blanket a building, but it’s not OK if you just want to earn some extra money and participate in cleaning your own house.
