In: Friendship Heights
Residents are opposing: Montgomery County
Because: They fear that traffic from a planned construction project will bring noise and congestion.
We Say: Worse, it will bring Hispanic day laborers.
In: Foggy Bottom
Residents are opposing: The Kennedy Center
Because: They say the parking sign the center wants to put on Juarez Circle is ugly
We Say: Not as ugly as that National Symphony crowd.
In: Dupont Circle
Residents are opposing: Jury’s Washington Hotel
Because: Jury’s planned sidewalk cafe enclosure is inappropriate.
We Say: If it fits, you must acquit.
In: Cleveland Park
Residents are opposing: Giant Food
Because: Their proposed expansion would make parts of Wisconsin Avenue a “dead zone.”
We Say: It worked for Stephen King.
In: The suburbs
Residents are opposing: Squeegee washers they encounter driving through Thomas Circle
Because: They use low-grade squeegee fluid that scratches windshields.
We Say: Earmark 10 percent of the commuter tax for high-grade squeegee juice.
