On April 19, the Washington City Paper ran a review of Ballad of Yachiyo in the Curtain Calls section of the paper. I thought Joe Dempsey’s piece was quite insightful and touched on some subtle, but very significant, points about the play.
As the lighting designer, I particularly enjoyed reading about the “blaze superbly conjured out of red lights for a kiln-fire scene.” As I am sure you know, most of us working in small-time D.C. professional theater are not in it for the money. So when you get a line like that without your name attached, it is kind of painful.
That aside, thanks for the great review.
