Rayful Edmond III still draws a crowd. On May 16, as the legendary drug lord took the stand behind bulletproof glass for the Rodney Moore/Kevin Gray trial, tourists joined TV and print reporters in the gallery. But Edmond’s high-rolling days, when he routinely brokered six-figure drug deals with Colombian cartels from prison, seem to have given way to a lower-priced lifestyle. When prosecutors asked what he had been given for his testimony, he said, “Nothing.” Well, not nothing, he elaborated: a pair of shoes, a T-shirt, cosmetics, and underpants. And possibly visiting privileges for his mother. —Alex Tourreilles
