I find Dave McKenna’s logic to be rather impeccable on the issue of whether Dan Snyder is prepping the waters for a name change for the NFL franchise in D.C. (Cheap Seats, “Hail and Farewell?” 5/3). I, for one, find the Redskins moniker to be insanely insulting to Native Americans. Moreover, American Indians, to quote Lionel P. Hutz, attorney at law, have “deep pockets” that they could turn on Snyder if they really wanted to tackle the issue.
I have a proposal that I believe would allow the team to continue to be called the Redskins, without offending any ethnic group, as well as avoiding the entire discussion of a name change, particularly something so bland and tepid as “the Warriors.” My solution: Put a potato on the side of the helmet.
