Because I’ll be too busy defending my crown at the infamous Rutabaga Launching Championships in Milford, Mass., I will be unable to attend today’s Egg Drop Design Competition on the second-floor balcony of the National Building Museum. You fellow eggheads should consider yourselves lucky, too: I have the perfect invention in mind, one that is quite similar, though inversely so, to my revolutionary rutabaga “hammerpop.” Here’s the deal: You will be given only a piece of paper and a rubber band to create a protective container for your imperiled orb—the thing breaks, and you lose, OK? Of course, that’s more than enough material for yours truly. And I don’t want to give away too many secrets, because I’m thinking of entering next year’s egg-drop excitement—those whiny rutabagans are getting surly with my success—but I will allow a little clue: wings, my friends, wings. Don’t crack under the pressure at 2 p.m. at the National Building Museum’s Great Hall, 401 F St. NW. $8 (registration required). (202) 272-2448. (SD)
