Despite what people say, if you don’t give a shit about “period charm,” comparisons to Pet Sounds, or the phrase “toured with Radiohead,” you’ll still dig Clinic. Over two records (Internal Wrangler and Walking With Thee), the Liverpool-based foursome have concocted a world of fractured music-nerd fantasies. What if the Troggs had made a dub record? What if Roy Rogers had jammed with Link Wray? What if the Beatles had never happened? Clinic will not settle for playing 180-gram, still-in-the-shrink-wrap renditions of garage-rock gems—and will not settle on being the next Radiohead or even (God forbid) the next Starsailor. It stole primitivism from the ’60s, style from the early ’80s, and the Pixies from the early ’90s. The result is anything but friendly. Enjoy Clinic as it takes a wrecking ball to your record collection and plays with Interpol and Q and Not U at 7:30 p.m. at 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $15. (202) 393-0930. (Jason Cherkis)
