Alan Cave and Zin are a nouvelle generation Haitian konpa band. That means that rather than dishing up large heapings of down-home, old-school polyrhythms, this 10-piece New York-based ensemble serves up tasteful portions of programmed beats and suave vocals. Founded in 1985, the band showcases Cave’s breathy French Creole and English croon. Though its tinkling synth work is often a little cheesy, and though Cave himself can get a bit saccharine, the group offers some musical substance in the form of fluffy, flavorful vocal melodies, underneath which the congas, guitar, and bass help balance the MIDI button-pushing. The group performs at 9:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church’s Williamsburg Ballroom, 805 Wayne Ave., Silver Spring. $25-$30. (240) 463-2406. (Steve Kiviat)
