Richard Pinhas’ new Event and Repetitions disc is a droney affair. At times, the effect- and loop-laden guitarscapes that Pinhas channels seem akin to something Carl Sagan might’ve narrated over. Though you’d never know it from this recording, another Pinhas project, Heldon, featured much more dynamic tension. The Fripp/Eno comparisons garnered during its heyday were largely directed at Pinhas’ experiments in melding electronic instruments with guitars in a group setting (and a track called “In the Wake of a King Fripp” was also kind of a hint). Silver Spring’s Cuneiform Records has reissued that material and is sponsoring this rare North American appearance by Pinhas. Expect Pinhas and accompanist Jerome Schmidt to incorporate vocal samples by Philip K. Dick and William S. Burroughs over their Franco-drone with Jack Rose at 3 p.m. at the District of Columbia
