Snap Pop! is the area’s coolest indie-music magazine, featuring timely pieces on bands both local and national, CD and live performance reviews, and regular columns by the likes of the king of the local scenesters, Jimmy Askew. Guided by Voices is the vehicle of legendary lush and former elementary school teacher Bob Pollard, who churns out brilliant songs with droll titles such as “Kicker of Elves” and does the best onstage sendup of Roger Daltrey you’re likely to see. (At least I think it’s a send-up.) And because it seems the two have been destined for each other since the beginning, someone’s come up with a devious idea for a fundraiser—”Blinded by Vices,” a night of GBV covers to benefit Snap Pop! at the Velvet Lounge. Because the featured artists—including members of the excellent Signs Point to Yes and the newly beefed-up Semi Lunar Valve—will have more than 1,000,000,000 Pollard songs to choose from, half the fun will be seeing if they rock your own personal favorite. Me, I’m praying for “Weedking.” The drunken revelry begins at 9 p.m. at the Velvet Lounge, 915 U St. NW. $7. (202) 462-7625. (Michael Little)
