I agree with most of your article on the failure of FedEx Field (“Disastro-Turf,” 12/13), but the author goes astray when saying that the Detroit Lions had poor attendance at the Pontiac Silverdome. Throughout their recent mediocrity, they often sold out games despite having the largest stadium of any NFL team.
The Lions’ new Ford Field, a spectacular facility, does have fewer seats, in part to guarantee sell-outs, allowing games to be televised locally. Still, Lions fans have been outstandingly supportive—some might be stupid.
