Though Drayz and his partner Skoob of Das EFX work from behind a sewer-spelunking facade, their outfit’s lyrics have always been light and pithy: In “They Want Efx,” the duo’s most well-known tune, the pair didn’t name-check tough guys. Instead, they built rhymes around such fresh meat as Holly Hobbie, Pinocchio, and even Sesame Street’s Snuffleupagus. For a few long-players, Das EFX’s eccentric style thrived, but ultimately, their signature stammers became more played than Cross Colours. The group has flown under the radar ever since. Nonetheless, with respect to their early head-nodders (whose gibberish-packed lexicon pissed off English teachers nationwide), I’m inclined to givvity-give ’em another shiggity-shot. Das EFX plays with Boot Camp Clik at 9 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $10. (202) 393-0930. (Craig Smith)
