Through Sabbath, through Maiden, and through Puddle of Mudd, Scott “Wino” Weinrich has been there: A doom-metal legend, Wino first allied himself with the ferrous gods of music way before Cobain anointed the Melvins rock’s saviors. Known for his work with the Obsessed, Wino joined SST’s Saint Vitus in the mid-’80s just in time for Born Too Late, an album that seems to have inspired a generation of doom metallians. Despite the genre’s ups and downsand as many of his doom compatriots have said, “Fuggit, maybe my uncle can still get me that job down at the roofin’ company”Wino just won’t quit. His latest project, the Hidden Hand, plays with Wooly Mammoth and Ostinato at 8 p.m. at the Velvet Lounge, 915 U St. NW. $7. (202) 462-7625. (David Dunlap Jr.)
