Not as one-dimensional as legend would have it. The quieter storms on this 1971 debut encompass everything from Floydian psych to Cocker-style soul. Of course, the head-cleaning amphetamine rock of “Do It” and “Uncle Harry’s Last Freakout” all but devastate the memory of anything else. —Brent Burton
