Purists give few snaps to Wes’ string-saturated Verve outings. But from the Champs-cover title track to the glossy bossa of “Insensatez,” this is a dentist’s-office classic. And though it helps to know the hospital scene from The Naked Kiss with all the damaged, diddled, pirate-hatted kiddies, “Little Child” is beautiful music at its sentimental, creepy best. —Glenn Dixon
