TUESDAY

Influenced by perky pamphleteer Ian Svenonius, Measles Mumps Rubella borrows both his manic, trebly funk and his overwrought, vaguely revolutionary rhetoric. To wit: The liner notes to its debut 7-inch incite readers to “DESTROY BABYLON THIS WEEK!” and also declare that “MEASLES MUMPS RUBELLA ARE NOW TERRORISTS” (all rendered on a manual typewriter, ’cause fonts are, like, sooo bourgie). But just when you begin to ail from the harangue, along come a dissonant guitar squall and a moody keyboard—a nice little PiL mixed with your DNA. This doctor guarantees it will be make you feel better even if it doesn’t cure all your ills. MMR plays with Dub Narcotic Sound System and the Microphones at 9 p.m. on the Black Cat’s Backstage, 1811 14th St. NW. $7. (202) 667-7960. (David Dunlap Jr.)
