I would like to respond to Loose Lips’ item on Mayor Williams’ efforts regarding tort reform (5/2). The citizens of D.C. should be a top priority when it comes to the health-care issues here. I have been a District resident for over 45 years, and a registered nurse for almost 50. I work with the disabled population—many handicapped/mentally retarded/special-ed children.

I find it appalling that the doctors who have been found to be negligent continue to practice medicine without any discipline. It is even more astounding and horrifying that compensation for these negligent acts could be capped by the mayor’s reform. We need to stop any negligent doctor from practicing medicine at the cost of others. Please give the citizens some real and true justice by protecting their health and well-being for their lifetimes.
