The Washington City Paper should be ashamed of its insulting, mean-spirited attacks on people who take the time and energy to commit to civic service in the District (Loose Lips, “Chairman of the Boards,” 5/23).

With the totally unfounded abuse served up by the likes of your columnist, it’s no wonder more people don’t step up to serve their community—despite all of the work to be done.

It’s time you took a long, hard look at the harm you cause the District and its citizens with your irresponsible, gutter-ball “reporting.” There are other ways to generate newspaper revenue; credible, objective journalism comes to mind.

By the way, if your columnist would take the time to check, she would discover that Washington, D.C., is one of the most competitive telecommunications markets in the country.
