MONDAY

Last year, on BET’s 106 & Park’s “Freestyle Friday,” 21-year-old rhyme phenom Jin struck down seven rap foes, many of whom attacked with stereotyped quips about his Chinese-American heritage. In the final round, an opponent labeled him “Bruce Lee with his pants all saggin’.” Jin hit back with vengeful lines including “My pants are new/My sweater is new/Don’t be mad a Chinese kid dress better than you!” The carnage was so brutal that celeb judge Wyclef Jean buried his face in a jacket. Jin’s verbal jousting was impressive enough for the former Miami resident to promptly ink a deal with Ruff Ryders, label home to DMX and Eve. Consequently, his forthcoming debut boasts production from Wyclef and Swizz Beats. He’s even already scored the requisite rapper/actor crossover role, as a tough-guy mechanic in 2 Fast 2 Furious. Jin plays with Common, Bubba Sparxxx, and Anthony Hamilton at 8:30 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $25. (202) 393-0930. (Craig Smith)
