I believe that you really should have stressed in “The Sick and the Dead” (7/11) that most people who have mental illness do not commit felonies, or any crimes, for that matter. I feel insulted by some of the terms that were used, such as “nuts” and “lunatics.”

People who are seriously mentally ill should have a place to go—more funding is needed. I don’t know if that is going to stop the people who are seriously ill and violent. Kendra’s Law is a good idea, but I am worried that it might start a new trend of putting people in hospitals even though they don’t need to be.

I suffer from a “brain disorder” commonly known as bipolar disorder. Mental illness is not a brain disorder—it is just that: an illness, like diabetes and epilepsy.
