Thank you, thank you, thank you for running Eddie Dean’s article on the historic Lester Young and the Jazz Soul of Porgy & Bess sessions (“Swing, or I’ll Kill You,” 8/8)!
I was privileged to play bass in the Bill Potts Orchestra at Montgomery College in the ’70s, and even my rock ‘n’ roll ears could discern that here was a real, honest-to-God jazzman. It was a treat to read the whole story of these historic records, told as only Bill Potts himself could. Thanks for the good times, Bill.
And please, Washington City Paper, keep Eddie Dean busy. Whenever I see his byline on your front page, I know I’m going to read some fascinating tidbit of local history, musical or otherwise.
