Ah, Montgomery County. From the Bobo paradise of Bethesda to the starter castles of Kensington and on to the exurban sprawl of Germantown, it’s hard to think of it as a “county” in the same sense as Faulkner’s Yoknapatawpha or the Dukes’ Hazzard. But despair not, Monty residents. That time of year is upon us in which your county transcends its rep as a plain-vanilla governmental organ to become a proud and colorful locale: It’s the last weekend of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair. And it has all the chain-saw carvers, pig races (six daily!), demolition derbies, goat shows, rickety rides, and fried crap on sticks you need to get your minds off bus rapid transit and the Intercounty Connector. Don’t miss the “Beef Breeding Show” when the fair is on, from 8 a.m. to midnight (see City List for other dates) at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, 16 Chestnut St., Gaithersburg. $6. (301) 926-3100. (Mike DeBonis)
