Scads of DJs make star turns after competing in DMC/Technics’ annual DJ battles. The events find furious scratchers, dexterous beat jugglers, and vinyl-based insult artists aiming to seize a world championship. Past needle thrashers include former Beck-touring turntablist DJ Swamp (who deliberately smashed his equipment after one memorable contest) and Beastie Boys DJ Mix Master Mike. Regional heats are held worldwide, and this year, they went down in such places as China and New Zealand in addition to the typical hubs of Los Angeles and New York. And D.C. has managed to score the 2003 DMC/Technics USA DJ Championship Finals. It’ll be hosted by Will Smith’s old pal Jazzy Jeff and is scheduled for a marathon six-hour running time. Keep close tabs on New York’s I.Emerge, who’s been steamrolling competitors in various battles all year long. The competition starts at 6 p.m. at Nation, 1015 Half St. SE. $15. (202) 432-7328.
