The Locust is unassailable, lauded by critics and crusties alike. So it’s tempting to try to find some chink in the band’s hip guard. I could pick on the whole bug-headed, evil-henchmen costume gimmick. Or the fact that Plague Soundscapes’ song-title schtick shamelessly cops Anal Cunt’s: Locust nano-thrasher “Twenty-Three Lubed Up Schizophrenics With Delusions of Grandeur” just can’t quite match the funny factor of AC’s classic Clapton ode “Your Kid Committed Suicide Because You Suck.” Not to mention that the analog synths these guys use are so Brooklyn 2002. I could even point out the two songs on the soundtrack of Cecil B. Demented, a pile of poop even Divine wouldn’t have wanted to eat. But why be a grump when the new album’s great and the band’s live shows are legendary? The Locust plays with the Dillinger Escape Plan, Your Enemies’ Friends, and Orthrelm at 8:30 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $15. (202) 393-0930. (David Dunlap Jr.)
