I just wanted to drop a note to let you know how much I appreciated Glenn Dixon’s review of my book Escaping the Delta (“Highway 61 Revisited,” 1/23).
Obviously, it’s always nice to get a positive review, but it’s very rare to read one that has lines I wish I’d thought of first. Dixon got my book in a way that I dreamed some reader might, not only understanding all the points I was trying to make, but going on from there to make his own connections and expand on the theme. I always hoped that this book would raise at least as many questions as it answered, and provoke a new discussion about blues music, Robert Johnson, race, culture. (What can I say? I dream big.) Anyway, Dixon’s piece is everything I hoped for, and he’s a hell of a writer. So thanks.
