If every press release, review, and hype-happy fanboy didn’t specifically point it out, you’d never know that Electric Turn to Me drummer Blake Fleming and organ and keyboard player Marcus DeGrazia are ex-members of Laddio Bolocko—one of NYC’s most influential and overlooked experimental noise-rock bands. Whereas the feedback- and time-change-laden The Life & Times of Laddio Bolocko is the perfect disc to throw on at your retail establishment at closing time to chase out dawdling customers, ETTM’s two EPs are full of the kind of melodic synth-pop that would keep them brooding in the aisles. Sure, the music may occasionally sound like the soundtrack to the next Castlevania installment, and German singer Silke will undoubtedly owe her share of the band’s revenues to Siouxsie Sioux for the moonlight requisition of her distinctive vocal style, but ETTM is a darkly refreshing entry into the genre. Electric Turn to Me plays with Lubricated Goat at 9 p.m. on the Black Cat’s Backstage, 1811 14th St. NW. $5. (202) 667-7960. (Matthew Borlik)
