Love is better the second time around: After several switch-ups since the band’s 1995 inception, Oklahoma’s Ester Drang is back to an almost-original lineup. Reunited founding members Bryce Chambers (vocals and lead guitar), Kyle Winner (bass), and James Mcalister (drums) were joined by guitarist and keyboardist Jeff Shoop in the spring of 2002, and sparks have been flying again ever since. Drang’s second full-length (and first with new label Jade Tree), Infinite Keys, is lush and pressing and beautiful: Achy strings weave in and out of acoustic hooks and tinkling piano as Chambers whines Thom Yorke–ily, rambling like a man soused senseless. Indeed, his voice is an instrument, and you’re better off enjoying it as such, ’cause the lyrics are often, um, bad. “If They Only Knew” is a case in point: “If they only knew, they’d come through/If they chose to know you, they’d be free…and see.” But after a few dozen listenings to the lovely “All the Feeling,” you won’t give a damn. The band plays with Del Rey at 9 p.m. on the Black Cat’s Backstage, 1811 14th St. NW. $7. (202) 667-7960. (Anne Marson)
