SUNDAY

No doubt about it: Lambchop’s got chops. Across two new discs (Aw, C’mon and No, You C’mon), Lambchop’s 14 genre-flouting members deftly weave piano, fuzzy guitars, twangy thumb piano, and who knows what else into lovely musical tapestries. Sure, the resulting soundscape can be hard to classify: Snatches of it, particularly on Aw, C’mon, sound a bit like Tom Waits (of whom lead crooner Kurt Wagner sounds like a somewhat healthier incarnation) jamming over Muzak. But there are three instrumentals on Aw, C’mon alone, and No, You branches out into reasonably adventurous rock (“Nothing Adventurous Please “) and a cute ’50s-style rock ’n’ roller (“Shang a Dang Dang”). But perhaps most of all, this double album adheres to the finest tradition of double albums: It gives plenty of ammunition to all those Monday-morning producers who know exactly what should have been on the one disc the band should have whittled its sessions down to. Hope the set list resembles your rewrite when Lambchop plays at 9 p.m. at Iota Club & Cafe, 2832 Wilson Blvd., Arlington. $15. (703) 522-8340. (Joe Dempsey)
