Evan Wright couldn’t have picked a better bunch of jarheads. Generation Kill, the Rolling Stone contributing editor’s hardcover collection of a three-part serial first published for that magazine, at times reads like an overcooked war novel of the Clancy variety. His subjects are practically Tony Scott caricatures, complete with nicknames such as “the Iceman” and a real affinity for the phrase “get some.” And the fact that these soldiers are real—they’re members of the First Recon platoon, a group of Marines that spearheaded the most recent Iraqi invasion—and that they occasionally associate battle with Grand Theft Auto:Vice City is pretty terrifying. But, much like this war itself, they are American-made, so no one should really be surprised at the outcome. Wright reads at 7 p.m. at Olsson’s Books and Records, 418 7th St. NW. Free.
