WWE Board Chair Vince McMahon is master of the Orwellian Two Minute Hate. During the post-Iran-hostage era, he pitted the evil Iron Sheik against prototypical American fightin’ man Sergeant Slaughter. Curly-tipped genie shoes proved no match for the lantern jaw—until Vince turned the tables to enrage wrestling fans: After the invasion of Kuwait, Slaughter defected to Iraq, inveighing against an America grown weak. These days, fans boo French tag team La Resistance. With a giant tricolor waving in the ring, the team scores victory after pay-per-view victory. And this past June on a tour of Germany, the E landed its first strike against NATO when champion John Bradshaw Layfield thought it would generate good heel heat to give the crowd a Nazi salute. Turns out the German people aren’t quite ready to laugh about that yet. Heil, Vince, at “Monday Night Raw” at 7:45 p.m. at the MCI Center, 601 F St. NW. $25–45. (202) 397-7328. (Janet Hopf)
