The D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation’s (DPR) newly renovated Shepherd Field features metal goal posts that are the envy of most soccer players. But, last week, fearing that the field will attract hordes of adult players who don’t live in the neighborhood, community members demanded that DPR replace the goals. According to Shepherd Park resident Karen Doty, in the past, overzealous adult players have hogged the field. “There were problems before of balls going over fences and into houses,” she says. DPR spokesperson Terry Lee promises that the goals will soon be dismantled in favor of a harder-to-share alternative. “The community wants something that can be put in the back of your car or in your closet,” he says.
