We dive deep on the day’s biggest story and share links to everything you need to know.
In his brief snippet about American University’s IMBY Public Service Day (“Not in My Acronym,” City Desk, 8/20), Mike DeBonis missed the story: that 170 Washington College of Law students, staff, and faculty dedicated an entire day to painting, landscaping, and picking up trash at several inner-city schools.
Many of those living in Spring Valley have commented on how nice the law school’s student community is; others have appreciated having access to our library, our educational programming, and the amenities of the main campus a half-mile up the road.
As a community, we are proud that, despite the looming rigors of law school, 170 volunteers shunned a day in the sun with a novel and instead chose to put their energy into helping the community. We hope that others can be motivated to dedicate their time to making important contributions to our community and world.
