Incredibly, your 4,000-word cover story lamenting the civil confinement of vicious child molesters (“No Way Out,” 9/3) not once mentioned the children who would be brutally violated if these predators were put back into our neighborhoods. The real scandal in the tale of Richard Alvin Ausley is that this serial molester of children was scheduled to be released at all.

Simple question: If he had been raping lawmakers or judges instead of kids who couldn’t vote, would Ausley have received such light sentences, time and time again?
