Suicide—Attempted

Kenilworth Elementary School

Sept. 8, 3:14 p.m.

A female school nurse was coming out of her office when she observed a male student with a back pack wrapped around his neck. The nurse went to approach the student. The student was pulling the straps choking himself. The nurse called for help. A female security [guard] responded to assist. The nurse and security guard took the back pack from around the student’s neck. The nurse escorted the student to her office to be examined. The student had no injuries to report. The student’s father was notified, responded to the school and took the student home.

Incident No. 113

Bomb Threat

Spingarn Senior High School

Sept. 16, 11:48 a.m.

An unknown male informed a Metropolitan Police Department dispatcher via telephone that a bomb was in the building. The male stated, “A bomb is in a locker in the school and will go off at 12 noon, I’m a student and I am in the school.” “I have a 45 and I’m going to pull a Columbine because I was suspended for 35 days.” The school assigned MPD officer and Security searched the school with negative results. The building was not evacuated. The male made the call from a cell phone, which did not display a number. However, the cell phone did display an address, which was Eastern High School’s address. MPD completed a report.

Incident No. 237

Assault With a Deadly Weapon

Kelly Miller Junior High School

Sept. 28, 3:45 p.m.

A female student was leaving the school when a parent/mother and 2-5 unknown males and females confronted the student on the parking lot. One of the suspects struck the student in the lower back with a Crowbar. When the student fell to the ground, suspects 2-5 began kicking and punching her. The student sustained injury to the nose. The school assigned nurse administered first [aid.] Medical attention not required. The mother is the parent of a student that the other student had been in a physical altercation with. The mother and the Suspects attacked the student in retaliation for her daughter. The school assigned MPD completed a report.
