Fundraisers conjure up such fond memories: a church bake sale, a bikini carwash, making yourself sick on an entire box of milk-chocolate-with-almonds candy bars that your mom ends up having to pay for. The kids from the Decatur Blue art collective aren’t gunning for band camp, but rather the Art Basel Miami Beach international art fair, the American sister event of Switzerland’s Art Basel, which combines a contemporary art show with parties and “crossover events” incorporating music, film, and architecture. Sounds right up DB’s alley: The group of seven artists, formed in 2000, caused a stir at its original studio/ gallery/music venue on Florida Avenue NW, and it’s enjoyed large turnouts for sporadic shows at spaces all over town. Come down and support the artists while enjoying art specials, drinks, and snacks (donated by Buck’s Fishing & Camping) that are bound to be better than Rice Krispies treats at 7 p.m. at Kaze Design, 1605 7th St. NW, Space 9. $20. RSVP to decaturblue@yahoo.com or call (202) 667-1100. (Anne Marson)
