Mike West (The Mail, 11/19) had it right. My letter to the editor (The Mail, 11/12) was an attempt at irony. That it wasn’t immediately recognized as such is almost as distressing as the outcome of the recent presidential election.

To be clear, though, the letter definitely wasn’t “a joke.” I think there will be little to laugh about over the next four years—well, hysterical laughter, perhaps. With the Democratic National Committee wondering if John Kerry might have won had he been more conservative, and the Supreme Court about to ideologically join the other two branches of government, we’re in for a rough ride with no end in sight. Ugh and then some.
