I am writing in response to “The Stoop at 1701 Euclid” (12/5). I must applaud the Washington City Paper for being the only media outlet in the Washington metropolitan area to explore the naked racism that gentrification has brought to the District of Columbia.

Anyone who reads this article and still can’t see that older African-American families are being driven from their communities is living in a fantasy world. It is obvious that the U.S. Attorney’s Office, D.C. Councilmember Jim Graham, and a few select members of the community are working to take Bennett family’s property away.

I hope that this situation will awaken African-Americans to be very aware of their environment and surroundings. Never assume that you are included in the American dream of home ownership.
