The Suicide Girls? Total skanks. At least that’s what you may think after getting an eyeful of the sweetest burlesque act to cheerfully challenge our country’s morals, the World Famous Pontani Sisters. You won’t see any electrical-tape pasties on these “choreographed cuties”: Siblings (left to right) Helen, Angie, and Tara (with youngest sis Dana occasionally adding bonus boobage) like to kick it old-school. According to their Web site, the Sisters travel around the world “spreading their glamour gospel and bringing classic Burlesque sass.” But if you can’t catch them live in some smoke-filled drinking establishment, the gals also offer a more heart-healthy option: Their dance-workout video, Go-Go Robics, is a 40-minute lesson on such moves as the twist and the hully gully and just basically on sweating fabulously. Go-Go Robics features the music of Los Straitjackets, an “instrumental rock ’n’ roll combo” whose sound is a cross between surf rock and George Thorogood—and whose members perform in Mexican-wrestler masks. And yes, weird boys and girls, Los Straitjackets also tour with the bodacious burlesque beauties. Bedfellows don’t get much stranger, but keep your minds open when the Pontani Sisters perform with Los Straitjackets at 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, in the Birchmere’s Bandstand, 3701 Mt. Vernon Ave., Alexandria. $16.50. (202) 397-7328. (Tricia Olszewski)
