Lesbians on Ecstasy? Sounds like every straight guy’s fantasy. (By the way, just what does it say about us hetero males that we suffer the collective hots for an entire subsection of the female population that wants absolutely nothing to do with us?) But L.O.E. is actually a kickass electronica outfit from our nonevil twin to the north, Canada. Fusing lesbian folk tunes to electronic dance music may at first sound, well, unpromising—nothing deflates the delusional straight guy’s lesbian fantasy like lesbian folk music—but these ladies bring a refreshingly irreverent sense of bawdy fun to the party. They give the classic headmaster/student sex fantasy a girl-on-girl twist in “The Pleasure Principal” and in general drag all those old lesbian anthems, as their label’s Web site so eloquently says, “kicking and screaming out of the folk festivals and onto the drugged up revelry of the dance floor.” An excellent concept, for sure. Get ready for some rocked-out Phranc when Lesbians on Ecstasy play with Le Tigre and Measles Mumps Rubella at 8:30 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $15. (202) 397-7328. (Michael Little)
